A Perfect Day at Five Oaks
The night before your hunt, we’ll be out scouting the ducks so you, as host, can entertain your guests. This is your only responsibility as host – everything else is taken care of by our staff.
You’ll be roused at 5 a.m. for hot coffee and a little breakfast, and our expert guides will have you in position by 5:45. Where will you be hunting? That depends on where the ducks are. We provide every type of habitat required by waterfowl throughout the fall and winter months: flooded timber, moist soil, scrub-shrub wetlands, flooded cropland, and even hot food crops like corn. Ducks love fresh water and newly flooded resources, and our water-management practices are geared toward success in the fields. Gone are the days of flooding the woods at season’s start and hunting in constantly deep water. We keep the water shallow and the food close to the surface—just the way the mallards like it.
Your hunt ends around mid-morning or when you reach your limit—whichever comes first—and you’ll come back to the lodge for a big, celebratory brunch, prepared by our in-house chef.
While many guests choose to have a nap after brunch, there are plenty of nearby entertainment options—goose hunting with a local guide, bass fishing, visiting the famous Mack’s Prairie Wings and the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie in neighboring Stuttgart, and onsite five-stand shooting are just a few. If you’re an avian enthusiast, pick up a field guide to native birds and go for a stroll to spot some of the dozens of species native to this area [CK Audubon et al. for XXX].
When evening comes, you and your guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres in the bar while the chef puts the finishing touches on your dinner. Meals at Five Oaks Lodge are not an afterthought—they are an integral part of your experience. The chef sources the finest meats and produce, and through his mastery of technique and careful presentation provides guests with a memorable fine dining experience.
After Dinner is your time to do as you choose. Guests most often find themselves settled into our leather couches and regaling one another with tales of the morning’s hunt, cementing the memories made and shared and dreaming together of the next hunt. Remember—the lodge is your home, to enjoy as you please. Our staff is here to make your stay everything you want it to be.
