Why do we do what we do every single day? This is a common question that educators ask themselves daily. Why do I choose to teach? Why do I choose to walk in the classroom and provide instruction to a room full of young minds?

As educators at Five Oaks Ag Research and Education Center, we too often challenge ourselves to remember our "why." Why did we create this incredible nonprofit organization?

As a young boy, George Dunklin, Jr., accompanied his father, George Dunklin, Sr., on his first duck hunt at the age of eight. This one hunting adventure changed everything. Not only did George fall in love with the sport of waterfowl hunting, but he quickly discovered a passion for the great outdoors.

In an effort to assist other eight and nine year-old boys and girls discover their callings or passions in life, Five Oaks Ag Research and Education Center created a kids camp titled, "Where is Mike Mallard?" Over the course of one school day, local elementary age students participate in a grand adventure where they are exposed to various ideas as they relate to conservation while working together as a team to find the missing character, Mike Mallard. Since it's inception, we have had the honor of partnering with dozens of schools and invited hundreds of students to join us for an incredible day.

When we created this program, it was our sincerest hope to reach every single student possible. Although we wish we could do so at Five Oaks, we realize that not every child is a short bus ride away. Therefore, we are thrilled to bring kids camps to your front door!

That’s right: We are launching "From Fields to Front Rooms: An at Home Adventure Camp!"

Children ages 8-11 are invited to participate in a carefully curated camp from the comfort of their house. This hands-on, highly engaging activity will encourage your young child to explore the great outdoors, participate in life changing adventures and unlock a passion inside of them.
